A friendly man on the boat helped us find a hobble hobble for a good price who could bring us to the chocolate hills. Ooh I love to sit on a hobble hobble! Nice view, cool air, feeling free, … only downside easily getting sunburned :)
Going inland and first stop: Sagbayan Peak. Going up the stairs to the viewpoint, it seems like entering Disneyland or any other amusement park! Amazing! However the view of the “peak” was really nice: strange little hills everywhere. When leaving the peak, we saw another tourist attraction… the smallest (as small as your finger) monkey in the world: the tarsier. But don’t touch them…or they commit suicide…
Back on the hobble hobble, of to the famous chocolate hills, but first we had to stop as our drivers were to hungry to ride… :). The chocolate hills (called like that, because in the dry season they are brown): even more little strange hills and some of them are still brown! It is a particular phenomenon. It’s like they just popped out of the ground.
Last stop of the day: Loboc river, a river in the jungle. Famous here are the floating restaurants. “Big” boats, functioning as restaurants, going up and down the river. However we took a little boat. The boat brought us to the small waterfalls where we had the chance to jump into the river and go under these waterfalls.
The boat driver brought us straight to our resort (Nutshuts). A nice place in the middle of the jungle, run by a Belgian couple. They advised us and some of the other backpackers to go cave hiking the next morning. And that’s what we did!
So the next morning we left with the group and two local boys, to guide us. As it was uphill all the time and because it was so hot, we were all sweaty only after a few steps (we could almost wring out our t-shirts). As my condition is worth nothing the climb was very hard for me…I was always behind the group…but hey.. I made it up! :) The guides brought us to the two biggest caves in Bohol, beautiful and of course full with big bats.
After the trip we arrive again at the river and we immediately jumped in to cool down!
In the afternoon we had to catch our boat back to Cebu. We had to take the bus to get to the pier (about 30km away), but the first bus that passed was full…only option…on the roof! A little bit irresponsible, but we didn’t have a choice and of course we love to try this out! :) A very adventurous ride: making sure we don’t fall of the roof and avoiding branches and electric wires. And at the same time protecting yourself from the burning sun (in which especially Sarah is very good) or trying to get at much suntanned as possible (Katrijn her way).
Anyway we arrived safe and well in the harbor and were in time for the boat! :)
