Last week I attended a Council meeting of the City Consolacion and a Barangay Assembly meeting of Barangay Cansaga (a Barangay of Consolacion). It was the first time the city did a real open Council meeting. What does this mean? Well normally the meetings are always open but they are held in the city hall. This time the meeting was brought closer to the people and was held next to the Barangay hall of Cansaga. I have to say…not a lot of people attended the meeting, but still there were some interested people present. After the Council meeting there was a huge diner…never a meeting without food…food is too important here and it is also a way to get people to attend the meeting…no food no people present :). Lechon (crunchy pig, at least the skin…), fruits, seafood and off course…rice! :)

After diner the general assembly started. There were people present of each sitio / district (8) of the Barangay and in front their representatives took place…Amazing…the meeting just started and hupsaaa…bottles of whiskey or rum were opened. Quite funny…the meeting didn’t take too long. Soon music was played and people started dancing! Filipinos really know how to dance…lots of them follow ballroom dancing classes. (we would also love to attend a class…soon) Off course I couldn’t escape…watching wasn’t enough…yes they pulled me on the dance floor…trying some new dance moves…rock ‘n roll!
What a fun meeting…
