Last week we attended the graduation ceremony of the University of the Philippines (UP). Normally graduation is in the beginning of April…but this University is always a bit late. Good for us…that way we could also enjoy this.
In Cebu-city there are lots of Universities…and so UP is one of them. This University is a bit more “alternative”…as for example boys can have long hair here.

In other schools and universities the boys and girls wear a toga at their graduation (as seen in the day-care center). At UP, however, they don’t wear a toga. The boys are dressed in the national costume (a white blouse and black trousers) and the girls were all wearing beautiful white dresses. Both with a colorful ribbon over their shoulder. Before graduating they were wearing it on their right shoulder…once graduated they can wear it on their left shoulder. (Yes they even practice how to move the ribbon from one shoulder to the other without removing the ribbon)

Lots of pictures, proud families and friends, music, speeches…the usual :)
